It was going to be very 'Hillbilly' but it wasnt Shrek-world enough. I still like my 'Blair Witch TV antennas. I wanted to hang a confederate flag but that was waaay out. There's a broom on blocks in there though!

Here's some Bee movie matte paintings I did with help from Eric Bouffard (great DW matte painter). All those circle/hexagons on the back wall of the bee hive had to be painted on as lighting couldn't handle it. We had to paint them in perspective too...uh, I shudder even thinking about it. Looks good though! The last one was a lock off of Barry's apartment. I had to get the walls looking like wax.

I painted the logo for the trailer for Bee movie - this opens up to reveal the Honex factory. I borrowed heavily from the amazing Pete Maynez on this one.

I also got to paint some NY storefronts so they wouldn't have to model or surface them. They just slap these on a model and make sure there's a lot of camera blur

So after the Bee's Art dept, I got to do some Bee matte paintings. Matte painting is a lot of fun. On Bees I got to paint some keys in VisDev THEN the final matte painting later on - so you actually get to see your work on the screen!

It's been almost a year since I posted last OMG - Well the twins DID arrive in January, so that accounts for six months. Where the other time went I do not know. Found some props from Bee Movie. These things never make it into any "Art of "book.

Stained Glass WIndows

A long time ago now, I was a Stained glass apprentice in Ireland. I became a full tradesman at it before discovering art and subsequently dumping the glass cutter for a paintbrush and wacom pen. Well, 15 years later, I decided to give it a crack again. I'm in a constant renovation battle with my old craftsman home, and wanted to build "Frank Lloyd Wright style" Lead lights. That would be a win-right?
Wrong - if your a millimeter off you're a mile off (as I learned). I made 2 of these - about 5' high. That's a 'Dard Hunter Rose' design for anyone vaguely interested.

Under pressure in Burma

O.K. This is just a mediocre little gouache at Shwedagon temple in Yangon, Burma. Hey, it was hot, the gouache was melting under my hand and drips from my nose and there were big mozzies. But the biggest pressure of all was the crowd as you see, who "Ooh'd and Aah'd" to every single brushstroke.

Wifey had bought a couple of weird looking fish from the Korean market. I couldn't resist painting them. My mission-impossible was to sneak'em out of the fridge, paint them then get em back in the cold before they went bad or before dinner. Mission accomplished-sorta-no one got sick at least.

This is another 8x10, done up at Millard creek, north of Altadena. Just turn left at Fairoaks and drive till you hit mountain. It's better in the autumn as you get to use yellow and red right out of the tube for the fiery leaves on the ground.

I painted this 8x10 in the backyard of our guesthouse in Dali. Dali is a heritage town around a lake in Yunnan, southern China. It's a bit of China that still looks like, well, China. Along with Lijang (100 clicks up the road toward Tibet, this is one of my favourate areas of the vast country.
